Greek myth. Pandora (“all-gifted”) is the first woman on Earth. She is given a box which she is never to open. But she does, releasing all evil into the world. She rushes to close the box, but everything has gotten out, except Hope, who convinces Pandora to let her out too so she can, y’know, give the world part of herself so they don’t despair with all the evil in the world.
