Book of Gehenna, Act III. Volume 9: The Captive Brides

Anagura – Kurai pulls herself away from Setsuna and tells him she loves him. He loves her too, “But…like I friend I never want to loose.” Kurai asks, “If you had to choose between yourself being happy, or the one you love being happy, which would you choose?” Setsuna replies, “That’s easy – for everyone to be happy!” This all seals Kurai’s decision to marry Lucifer. At dawn she discovers Kira and his unhealed body; he is sad he’ll never get to touch Setsuna or laugh or be angry with him after the body he is in dies. Kurai gives the Pandora Box to Arachne to give to Setsuna. He opens it and Kurai goes to Sheol. Setsuna realizes something is wrong and sends Boyz and Noyz to find Kurai. Boyz ends up at an altar to Lucifer. It is Arachne’s altar – she has been working for Belial and the Satans, ever since the War ended. She has The Mark on her chest. She’s doing it exclusively to get her revenge on Heaven for killing her family and seemingly doesn’t care if everyone else gets hurt. She kills Boyz.

Sheol – Belial, in conversing with “Seven Satans Prince Asmodeus” is told that the serum doesn’t “resurrect” – only Raphael can do that – it makes zombies. Belial continues to push the serum out of his love for Lucifer.

Anagura – The Demon Skull in the cage is trying to rush Setsuna into taking the serum to revive his body but Noyz grabs it to use on Boyz. Arachne somehow (telekinesis?) makes her drop it so she, Arachne, won’t be found out. Setsuna decides they must go to Sheol to rescue Kurai, led by the demon. It isn’t going to help but Kira points out (by lots of stabbing) that yes, it can never die, but it feels pain. He implies he’s going to keep torturing it if it doesn’t help. He then stalks off to die by Setsuna’s body. But a cloaked figure (Belial) materializes and heals him “for the last time.” Kira says, “Why?” Belial: “A dirty holy bond. A promise made…”

Sheol – Setsuna, Arachne, Noyz, with hair cut like Boyz, and the Caged Demon go there. Before they leave, Setsuna shouts to Kira, “We’ll all return so then things can go back to how they used to be. Those fun days…I swear…we’ll someday be able to return to that.” Arachne wanders off and Devil tells her she must push Setsuna into the River Lethe to erase his memory so the Hells can take over.

Meanwhile Belial has Kurai locked up in a special time-portal room. She has stolen one of Setsuna’s earrings (from his body) and is going to throw it away into the portal but as it’s falling she realizes she’s throwing away her memories and thus herself. She leans to catch it and does but falls through the portal into a deep dark hole. A dragon-beasty-demon is locked up – no one can look on him without dying. But Kurai can because she’s holding Setsuna’s (the amulet from Kira) earring. She wants to help the poor lonely thing escape. A Devil (possibly Lucifer himself?) is coming to check on him because he “smells the scent of a young child.” The “Prince” as the demon calls him, shoves Kurai into an escape hole. She walks down it and ends up in the room of the demon Marquess Astaroth.

Heaven – Raphy is pondering that Jibril was completely reborn as a human (Sara) which is why no one ever sensed a guardian angel (for Setsuna.) Sara implied Raziel is an aeon. Raphy tells Sara Setsuna’s body is dead. He agrees to resurrect him but only if he can sleep with her first. She agrees after a big fight and lecture from her (“Are you…afraid of women?” why you treat them so bad?) Raphy seems to be agitated – then Michael comes calling, crashing through the ceiling. He’d been demon hunting and gives Raphy, among other things, a Behemoth liver. Sara lectures HIM about smashing up the place, and also that she’s the Savior’s sister. Michael is just leaving as his brain finally processes the phrase “Savior’s sister” which, thinking of Setsuna, pisses him off as he turns around…[VOLUME ENDS]
