Book of Assiah. Volume 4: Goodbye Mother: Hold Your Hands High and Kiss the Blue Planet Good-Bye

The volume opens with a destroyed Tokyo. Arachne and Kurai have survived. Sara is dead. Kira is dying. He summons Setsuna telepathically to bring him out of his raging dream and back to the material world. Katan is wounded. Adam Kadamon appears, saying, “My name is Seraphita.” This Angel says that Kira is a demon, actually the will of the seven-blade sword, which is how his body became bloodstained. It has sucked away tens of thousands of souls and became a demon-sword. Seraphita/Adam wants Setsuna to crush the stone amulet around his neck to be rid of Kira; in return he will send Setsuna back just after Sara died & the world ended, stopping time so they can defeat Rosiel’s rebellion in Heaven and rescue Seraphita/Adam who is trapped in Etemenanki. Setsuna chooses to heal Kira and to rescue Sara, who has gone to Hades (the land of the dead.) “Tell me how to get there and I’ll do what you ask [stopping Rosiel & rescuing him.]” He must be pierced by the Sword to release his soul from his body. He will remain in a near-death state for 7 days. If his soul does not return by the 7th day his body will die and his soul will be lost in Hades. The wounded Katan “dies” in Rosiel’s arms – there are love/hate feelings on Rosiel’s part. He tries to force-feed Katan one of his mind control chips but he doesn’t take it.

Book of Hades, Act I opens

“Book of Hades” – “1999, the day of Final Judgment. This planet was to meet its ragnarok.”

In Hades, Setsuna initially cannot move, hear or see. A Voice announces, “You can hear,” and he hears; “You can speak.” He speaks. “You can see,” and he sees. Enra-Ô is the ruling spirit of Hades. Setsuna is directed to go to “…the man who lives at Yggdrasil by the central lake Hvergelmir.” Kato will be his guide! He tells Setsuna they are going to “Hellgate, Rashomon gate, whatever!” Kato’s true objective is to throw Setsuna into the lake Hvergelmir.

Kato tells Setsuna: “108 bells tolling for me weren’t enough.” As they are walking, a mask from the Hades (Enra-Ô’s) Castle is being used to control ghouls, the souls of the dead in Hades. They fight a ghoul, but in the midst of it the mask is sucked onto Kato’s face and disappears, unnoticed by Setsuna.

In Anagura – it is listed as the third level of the underworld. “Palace of Anagura, Banmaden.” (Kurai-san notes.) “All the Angel crystals are kept here in Banmaden.” We learn Boyz has a crush on Princess Kurai.

By this point, Rosiel has returned to Briah. He “saved Metatron from getting shot by a rebel” so it was his right to reclaim the celestial throne with all the celestial support. A “sister” angel who helped in the assassination plot is sentenced by Sevy to have her wings cut off and “brand[ed] as Lilith.” There is a great conference of the archangels called but none will attend because of the disturbances in the court (Rosiel returning; the Rebel attacks.) Rosiel also has managed to feed Katan a chip but Katan has yet to awaken. He has not awakened due to the fact he was created by Rosiel; the two forces (the magic used to create him, and the magic in the controlling chip) do not mix. Rosiel wonders, “…his cells are unable to regenerate. So will Katan die?! Is that the price I pay?” His body is kept in a coffin, animated only as a bloodthirsty beast; the Katan inside is still unconscious.

The angel Dobiel currently commands the military unit Katan was in. Sevy knows Katan descended to Assiah and demands Dobiel “who I selected…to act in place of the once great Cherubim Gabriel…to kill Rosiel.” Dobiel kisses Sevy’s gloved hand, an act of loyalty. After he leaves, Sevy burns the glove.

The book ends with Dobiel and another angel of Sevy’s getting eaten by Katan. Sevy wants to get the casket, as he knows it is important to Rosiel, but does not know Katan is in it. Sevy commands his people, “If you cannot make an attempt on his life at least come back with the casket.” Through this whole drama, Lord Zaphikel is spying on them, which Sevy seems to be aware of, as when spying is mentioned, he says: “I think I know who it is. Looks like I’ll have to cut off his head again before he learns his lesson.”
